Netflix is giving the internet exactly what it asked for. The streamer has added one of 2026’s most viral stories to its Untold documentary series with Untold: Wide Deceiver, a film that will examine the case of Daejon Love, the man accused of posing as a San Francisco 49ers player to scam women out of money.⁠ ⁠ According to Netflix and reports from The Hollywood Reporter, the documentary will be told firsthand by the women who say they were deceived, unpacking both the internet nickname “Wide Deceiver” and the darker allegations behind the viral posts. Production is led by Propagate and Stardust Frames in association with North of Now and The Cut, with executive producers including the Way brothers (creators of the Untold series), Ben Silverman, and Howard T. Owens. No director or full cast of participants has been named yet, and a release date remains unannounced.⁠ ⁠ Love was arrested in August on federal wire fraud and conspiracy charges. Prosecutors allege he and an 18-year-old accomplice, Taylor Jamie Chan, ran a scheme that targeted women primarily through dating apps. Love is accused of presenting himself as a 49ers wide receiver (and at times as a wealthy real estate investor), complete with staged social media videos of him running routes in 49ers gear and a replica helmet. Chan allegedly joined calls posing as Love’s financial advisor to legitimize fake investment opportunities. Authorities have identified at least 26 victims and roughly $1.3 million in alleged losses, with the FBI later noting that dozens more women had come forward.⁠ ⁠ The case drew massive online attention after Love’s arrest, as videos, photos, and messages of him claiming to be an NFL player spread widely. Love has pleaded not guilty, and his trial is currently set for December 15. The Untold film is expected to center the women’s accounts rather than Love himself.⁠ ⁠ Untold: Wide Deceiver continues Netflix’s pattern of turning high-profile sports-adjacent scandals into character-driven documentaries.
