one degree hotter, but still never finished my homework. 🥹

this week i graduated. in psychology. i fucking did it.

i wish i could tell you what it cost me without having to tell you so much about my life.
while finishing this degree, i lost my home.
i lost raven, who was my entire family.
there were assignments due while i was trying to figure out where we would live. if i could even stay in school. while my former so-called partner slept soundly, in the house he bought for us, at his job he kept, after using legal power and force to abruptly shatter me. there were readings to finish while i was crying. deadlines that didn’t move because my life had fallen apart. studying psychology while in crisis was not lost on me.
i tried to get help. that took time and energy too.
being told to reach out means very little when you reach and reach and nothing reaches back.
“friends” told me they couldn’t help.
they had their own problems, they said.
i remember staying up all night, cramming, teaching myself classes i missed because i had to work in order to pay for the classes i couldn’t attend, crying, grieving, wanting to give up.
so much commuting. so much pushing.
hugging myself in the car before exams, giving pep talks i wish would come from anyone else.
i thought of little me and older me and my family who weren’t there.

this is all quite painful AND
i’m so proud of the work i did.
papers on how complex grief is and proposing a novel framework for how we approach loss; relationships and attachment and avoidant discards; the increasing problematic online gambling industry and who benefits from this addiction.

i’m also angry about how much of it i had to do while trying to survive things i should never have had to endure. alone.
i wanted raven here.
she should be here.
i wanted to arrive at this day with more of my life intact.

and i want to celebrate. i do. i am.

i want photos of myself smiling in this ridiculous rectangular hat because i earned it. this ridiculous rectangular piece of paper.

what this cost me will never be on my transcript, nor was it ever fully witnessed by another.

a smile can be true even when it doesn’t tell you everything.

A nursing student’s viral Reddit post claims nearly everyone at the hospital where she volunteers is romantically involved with a coworker.

The data paints a more complicated picture, since workplace relationships are common in almost every industry.

In a 2026 Medscape survey of Canadian physicians, 54% said doctors are no more likely than other professionals to get intimate at work, though 14% said they are. Across all jobs, about 39% of US workers say they’ve dated a coworker, according to a 2025 survey from Resume Genius.

Healthcare does have conditions that can bring people closer, including long overnight shifts, high pressure situations and coworkers who become each other’s main social circle. That may help explain why about 20% of physicians are married to other doctors and another 25% to other healthcare professionals, according to Medscape data cited by the American Medical Association.
