I grew up watching Korean dramas, especially 사극, dreaming about walking the same streets I saw on screen, experiencing their world, and maybe even wearing those beautiful 한복 while wandering around palaces like I’ve traveled back from 조선. It took a while to get here, but stepping into Korea as an adult only made me fall even deeper in love with its history, culture, and everyday magic.
I love how public transportation doubles as my accidental gym, how there’s Wi-Fi and heating everywhere (bless whoever made that happen), and how every corner feels strangely familiar. Even though I already have a pretty special life back in the U.S., something about being here just hits different. There’s this quiet, unexplainable feeling of being wanted, a sense of belonging, that I can’t quite put into words. And every time I have to fly back to L.A., I tear up a little, like I’m leaving a piece of myself behind. Of course, there are things I don’t romanticize, like the conservative views and the intensity of the public eye, but despite it all, Korea feels like a home away from home. And I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of coming back.
한국아, 사랑해. 🇰🇷✨
