pictures are worth a thousand words and here are some photos that i never posted from june of 2022. it truly was a life changing trip to be able to connect with my heritage by visiting greece and i left a different person with so much perspective on my ancestors. my mom’s side of the family is very greek (my grandparents had a very americanized greek name from when they immigrated to Ellis island, that’s too personal to my heart for me to even type out online but if you ask me irl i will proudly tell you), i have a Greek name- kassandra and i grew up being obsessed and hearing the stories of mythology for bedtime and stargazing the constellations with family so to go was truly special. seeing the landscapes of trading villages my ancestors would have seen and visited, eating traditional cuisine that reminded me of my childhood that my mom would make, and seeing all the ancient structures and the art was breathtaking and i think of it all the time. traveling gives you perspective that is challenging to put into words but it forces you to look at where you came from and how you got to the present (at least in my experience). i came back from this trip and worked on actively being a better version of myself with ending a relationship that i was wilting in, focusing on my health physically and mentally, and i did the work of cutting out what wasn’t beneficial for me and i feel all the more connected to my body and mind spiritually. it led me to understanding the experience of knowing that my body type and quirks didn’t come from just me but generations of women before me. the things i had hated about myself for years were the traits that my family members before me had possessed to survive into another generation. my dimples, button nose, funny toes, big laugh, body type and more i found ran in my family and many others. overall i am so very grateful for my greek heritage and to know there’s a world out there that’s beautiful and waiting if one is simply brave enough to be open hearted enough to go explore it 🇬🇷🌺🌊🫒🧆🏛️
