Manchester United’s miserable start to the 2026/27 season continued with a 2-0 defeat to Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. Pablo Barrios stunned United with an opening goal inside the first minute, leaving Michael Carrick’s side chasing the game from the outset. Despite chances for Marcus Rashford and Bryan Mbeumo, and Bruno Fernandes striking the crossbar, United failed to find an equaliser. Things went from bad to worse when Leny Yoro was sent off following a VAR review in the second half, before Ademola Lookman doubled Atlético’s advantage. Another disappointing European night for Manchester United, who have now won just twice all season, with pressure continuing to mount on Carrick as Atlético celebrate a huge victory in Madrid
