Yohji Yamamoto isn’t one to look back. “I honestly don’t remember what I did in the past,” he says five decades into his career. Even so, there’s a wistfulness to how he sees his own place in the industry. Having outlived friends and competitors like Azzedine Alaïa, Giorgio Armani, and Alexander McQueen, he admits he feels “a bit lonely.” But his deeper concern is for the uncertain landscape newer designers are inheriting, shaped by war, distress, and an industry he believes is destroying creativity through economic pressure. His advice for them is simple: work, work, work. Read our full @hypebeastmag cover story with the icon, where he continues to search for the answers. President Donald Trump revealed that he personally asked Google CEO Sundar Pichai to rename the Atlantic Ocean on Google Maps, but Pichai refused. Speaking at a rally in South Carolina, Trump recalled Pichai telling him, “No, no, no. This time I’m not doing it,” explaining that the ocean borders too many countries for Google to make the change. Traders predict a 22% chance Trump will rename an ocean before 2028.
