Ravan, Kumbhakaran, Meghnad and a 30-foot cockroach. That is the planned lineup at a Pitampura Ramlila this Dussehra. The Shree Keshav Ram Leela says it represents filth and dirt, and that burning it is meant to promote cleanliness under the Swachh Bharat and Swachh Delhi campaigns. The choice comes against a political backdrop: the Cockroach Janata Party is protesting in Delhi, demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in electoral roll revision. Committee president and BJP MLA Ashok Goel has denied a political motive. He told PTI that the cockroach would also feature among the demons in Ravan’s army. The shared name and timing give the story its political context, but they do not by themselves prove that the effigy targets CJP. Organisers reject that reading. What do you make of the organisers’ explanation? For @fabrizio.brienza, New York isn’t just where he lives. It’s non-negotiable. This, my friends, is @thevaluesbridge value of Place in action. When the value of Place is high, location isn’t a detail. It’s the first thing you figure out, before you plan anything else. And if you could happily live anywhere? That’s totally fine too! That’s a lower value of Place. Where does it fall for you? 🎙️ Don’t miss this full episode, on the Becoming You podcast now. At my link in bio. #newyorkcity #newyorker #newyorkornowhere
