One year ago today, @jimwmorrison skied the Hornbein Couloir on the north side of Everest — 9,000 feet of no-fall zone. October 15 will always be a special day for me. The kind of day you dream of in the mountains — a tier one team of friends, everyone showing up and doing what they were there to do, no fuss, just execution. And of course the beauty and the shared hardship. A year has marched by and my memories of the day have already dulled. I went back through the photos to sharpen them again. I’ve long considered the direct north face the ultimate ski line on the ultimate mountain. Watching a friend dream, commit, persevere through it all, and then ski it with confidence was impressive and satisfying. Many of these pictures are of the team from the seven years and three expeditions it took to pull it off. The Sherpa team, the climbing team, the production team. The odds of failing were always better than the odds of succeeding, and they showed up anyway. You can’t ask more of a team. Grateful for all of these extraordinary human beings. And Jim, your one of one. Thank you for the years of friendship. Everest: The Other Side is in theaters and IMAX October 30.
Let us be clear: darn right I am stoking division. Division between people who want to create and deploy technology that allows users to create nonconsensual sexual exploitation images on the internet and those who don’t. Either it’s ok with you or it’s not, now’s the time to choose.
