This morning is one I will never forget. Last night, we had to say goodbye to my Pawpaw. The Lord called him home, bringing him peace and relief from pain. Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, I find comfort in knowing he’s now with Jesus, experiencing freedom and joy beyond anything we can imagine.
In 2013, I had a moment I will forever cherish—a God-given opportunity to lead my Pawpaw in a prayer to rededicate his life to Christ. Today, on this day of sadness, I hold on to the peace of knowing he’s now the best angel I could have ever asked for.
My Pawpaw was truly one of a kind. A fighter, a man of honor, and the kindest soul I’ve ever known. He was a legend, a trailblazer—one of the first Navy Seals who went on to have an incredible career in law enforcement. He lived with dignity, integrity, and love, embodying what it means to be a husband of 67 years, a father, and a grandfather.
He always pushed me to be my best, taught me life lessons I will carry forever, and encouraged me to chase my dreams. Though it hurts to say goodbye, I’m comforted by the image of him in heaven, dancing in true freedom.
Please keep our family, especially my Grandmother, in your prayers this morning. My Pawpaw lived 91 amazing years, and I had the honor of being his grandson for 32 of them. What a blessing.
Rest in peace, Allen J. Needham.
