The first rule of reupholstering any piece of furniture is to ask yourself if you genuinely like it. Meredith Ellis, Dallas-based interior designer and founder of the JAMES showroom, warns that if you don't enjoy the shape of the piece, you won't be satisfied with it even after spending money to reupholster it.
