“When I think of the title SOSO, I can’t help hearing, so-so, as in ‘How are you these days?’, ‘So-so, I’m not sure, neither good nor bad’. I feel that Samuel’s dance carries with it an irony, a kind of second thought that always considers its opposite, a doubt, an of course... but maybe... There’s a Jewish joke his sister Alma told me: one friend asks another how he’s doing. ‘In a word, good.’, ‘And in two words?’, ‘Not good.’
SOSO takes place in this state of suspense. It is neither slow nor fast, neither virtuoso nor casual. Neither abstract nor totally recognisable. It’s so-so: somewhere in between, depending on how many words you’re allowed to use.”
