💡You don’t pay for what you use…you pay for what the average use was during that time period the years before.

Then periodically throughout the year the electric companies actually read the meters and see what you ACTUALLY used during the period you paid for and adjust the amount.

This means you could overpay and have a refund or underpay because you used more. I rented a former Bed and Breakfast for a year and lived there as my personal home. When it was operating as a B&B the electricity was through the roof so when I received a bill that clearly was too high for a single person living in a personal home, I freaked out. That’s when I learned that you aren’t paying for what you actually use at the time you pay🤦🏻‍♀️

Additionally when electric and utility bills are put into another person’s name, you have to pay for the transfer or “voltura”, which can be expensive.

The whole process is a bit of a nightmare but I recently received a reimbursement notice for the amount I paid. However, now I need to make sure I actually receive the refund 😂 sometimes being an immigrant is such a difficult process even in a country like Italy where I am now a dual-citizen.
