We get the feeling this won’t be your last Masters 1000 final 👏 @rafa.jodarr

I’m not going to comment on what people wear during Navratri, because some people might show ancient idols and start comparing themselves to goddesses.

But let’s leave that aside and look at something else. Some girls on social media are apparently simping for Mahishasura. Perhaps they don’t know how he is portrayed in Hindu history.

According to the Devi Mahatmya, Mahishasura defeated the gods and took control of heaven. He believed that no male could defeat him, whether a god, a human, or an asura. He obtained a boon that made him invulnerable to these male opponents.

To defeat him, the divine powers manifested as Goddess Durga, who fought Mahishasura in a fierce battle. According to the traditional account, the battle culminated in his death at the hands of Goddess Durga.

The irony is that some people celebrate Navratri, worship Goddess Durga, and participate in Kanya Puja, where young girls are honoured as manifestations of the Goddess, yet simultaneously romanticise the very demon who is portrayed as her adversary.

This is why understanding history and the context behind these stories matters. Before glorifying a character simply because he looks attractive or powerful, it is worth understanding what that character represents in the original account.

Otherwise, people may end up romanticising red flags, get hurt in unhealthy relationships, and later complain, “Ek kachori, do samose, in mardon ka kya bharosa!”
