Ii iubim mai mult decat am putea pune vreodata in cuvinte.❤️

👧🐇🎩🦩 Alice in Wonderland illustrated by Katia Vashchinskaya @katiakostina_illustrator published by Pan Press in 2025

This magnificent edition has 363 pages, & weighs a whopping 1.4 kg (3 pounds)! 🏋️‍♀️

The pages are pink for Wonderland 🩷 & pale turquoise for Looking-Glass 🩵

The typography & visual layouts are very imaginative, and there are 101 illustrations, based on the artist's oil paintings.

She first drew pencil sketches of all the illustrations, then painted them in oils, developing richly textured surfaces.

The images have an ethereal atmosphere, in a very beautiful dreamy palette 🎨 There are elements of surrealism, fantasy, & steampunk, with mysterious creatures, Celtic knots & ornamentation everywhere.

1: Cover: the book is bound in shimmering pink silk fabric with silver decorations

2: White Rabbit 🐇 is a fearless traveller between worlds, wearing an early 20th-century motorist's hat with goggles, a chessboard scarf & a tunic with medieval ornamentation.
A flying lanternfish 🐟💡 floats above him

3&4: The Queen & King of Hearts are framed by two flamingos, their long necks forming an enormous HEART shape 🦩♥️🦩

5: The Knave of Hearts is the vampire Lestat reimagined as a K-pop star 🧛‍♂️

6: Gryphon sports the elegant collar of a Spanish grandee 🦅🇪🇸

7: Mock Turtle looks like Uhtred of Bebbanburg, his shell transformed into a magnificent Norse cuirass adorned with Celtic knots & jewels 🐢💎

8: Tea Party: Look carefully at the teapot! 🫖
Alice is reflected in its shiny surface as she arrives! 👀

9: The three sisters in the treacle well are half girls, half mermaids, with tadpole tails! 🧜‍♀️🐸 They're swimming not in treacle, but in kisiel, a traditional East European fruit jelly 🍒

10: The Mouse is female in the Russian translation. She looks just like Éponine from Les Misérables! 🇫🇷🐭
Her necklace is a piece of cheese 🧀

11: Bill the Lizard is an exotic frilled-neck lizard with enormous checkerboard-patterned wings, who somehow looks just like Boy George 🦎

12&13: Duchess & Cook are pigs, in a reversal of the story 🐷🐷

14: The Piglet baby 👶 & interesting typography

15: Alice surrounded by the swarm of cards 🃏

🐰

That's why you always gotta inspect the signs in China. My neighbors at the community garden are not messing around about their water, thank god it wasn't me who took it. #foreignerinchina #learnchinese #urbanfarming #guerrillagardening #chengdu
