2 years agoYour new colour and fitments has completely transformed this shop and it looks very beautiful now, filled with art work. The shop window and doors are just the same, though, so it is like stepping into the past and present at the same time ! It is surely the best incarnation the shop has ever had ! 👏👏
2 years agoWhen you posted photos of your stripped out space, ready to be refurbished, I had a sudden flashback to when was 16 years old. I had a Saturday job working at the shop which was then occupying this very space. It was a clothes shop called 'Freda MacDonald's', one of the very few shops in Ilkley selling clothes in the early1970s. The only charity shop then, was Oxfam, still occupying the same place today. I got paid the princely sum of ten shillings for an afternoon's work or one pound if I worked all day. The back of the shop contained clothes rails and a tiny changing room, whilst there was a glass topped counter unit at the front of the shop, at right angles to the door, which displayed nylon stocking underneath.I loved working there and spent many hours rearranging clothes and folding jumpers.I always think about the shop when I come into Weaverbird, but it was the empty space in your photo which really brought it all back.
