An Edmonton man has been sentenced to three years in prison after police found 3D-printed gun parts, prohibited weapons and ammunition inside his north Edmonton home. 🏠🔫🚔🐝

Roy Tucker, 31, was facing 43 firearm-related charges following a national investigation into the illegal reproduction of firearms.

Police seized 38 legally owned firearms, 27 over-capacity magazines, a suppressor, a switchblade, ammunition and numerous 3D-printed gun parts during a 2023 search of his home.

A police firearms analyst was able to make three of the 3D-printed guns operational within 15 minutes using only parts found inside the home. Court heard another eight could have been made operational, with enough parts to make five more.

The judge said there was no evidence Tucker intended to sell the guns, finding he was manufacturing them as part of his gun hobby. The Crown sought 4.5 years, while the defence requested a two-year conditional sentence.

During the sentencing hearing, Tucker stood in court with his voice shaking as he apologized to the judge and said his actions came from curiosity. “My intent was never for violence, never for profit,” Tucker said. “My actions stemmed merely from curiosity.” He also told the judge he would “never touch another gun” again and said he felt terrible about the resources spent on the investigation.

Tucker had not spent any time in custody following his arrest and will not receive credit for time served.
