![Which character from the Jigsaw squad would you like to see return in the next untitled Saw film? 🪚
For years, the next Saw installment after the successful Saw X has been up in the air
Saw XI was announced on December 11th, 2023, less than 3 months after Saw X hit theaters. It was supposed to release September 27th, 2024, but after months without news, it was delayed to September 26th, 2025 in April 2024
More quiet months followed, alongside rumors of disagreements between Twisted Pictures producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules over the franchise’s direction. Then, in March 2025, Saw XI was quietly removed from Lionsgate’s schedule, leaving the future even more uncertain
Then, in a move nobody saw coming, Blumhouse announced on June 18th, 2025, that it had acquired a 50% stake in the Saw franchise from Burg and Koules, while Lionsgate kept its 50%. Blumhouse is known for films and franchises like Insidious, Get Out, The Purge, Paranormal Activity, David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy, and FNAF
The deal also brought back original creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell! Wan later said he wants to give the franchise a fresh start and that you can’t make a Saw movie without Jigsaw
In January 2026, Gregory Weidman and Geoff Tock were quietly reported to be writing the film. And as of Most recently, in September 2026, the project got a director: Mike P. Nelson, who directed the 2021 Wrong Turn reboot and Silent Night, Deadly Night
James Wan, Leigh Whannell, and Jason Blum are attached as producers, marking a huge shift in the creative team
After years of delays and uncertainty, the next Saw is finally moving forward again, but likely with a different story than the original Saw XI plan. The project is still untitled, with no release date just yet
But after everything, I’m so glad we’re finally getting more Saw on the big screen soon!
