The Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board’s move to introduce common themes for Friday sermons at mosques under its control has drawn criticism from National Conference leader Imran Nabi Dar, who questioned the role of the authorities in deciding what religious preachers should discuss. The Waqf Board has proposed forming a committee of Islamic scholars and preachers to select topics for sermons delivered at mosques and shrines across the Union Territory. The initiative aims to bring greater uniformity to discussions on social issues, including drug abuse and women’s concerns. Reacting to the proposal, Dar alleged that the move could allow the BJP to influence religious discourse in Kashmir. “[The] BJP will draft Friday sermons for mosques across Kashmir. They will decide what issues our preachers will talk about, what colour they will give them and what issues are brushed under the carpet,” Dar said in a social media post. “The content will be theirs, the wording will be theirs and the intent will be theirs,” he added. Three years of genocide. Seventy-eight years of dispossession and oppression. Generations of Palestinians demanding dignity. Gaza is not yesterday’s story. Palestinians continue to organise, care for one another, document crimes and demand their rights. Their courage must be met with action. People all over the world have risen in solidarity. Millions have joined marches and mounted protests. Dockworkers have blocked military arms shipments. Journalists have kept reporting. Humanitarian workers have kept protecting life. Artists, filmmakers, legal advocates and civilian flotillas have challenged silence and complicity. Governments must end their complicity. No government should arm or enable the Israeli government’s genocide in Gaza. Greenpeace demands a permanent, unconditional ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian aid, a comprehensive arms embargo, targeted sanctions, the release of unlawfully detained Palestinians and an end to Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine. Don’t look away. Stand with those resisting. Demand that your government act now. #gaza #palestine #ceasefirenow Greenpeace supports a future in which Israel and Palestine live side by side in peace, within recognised borders, consistent with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
Let’s talk about this little bird. 🐦 As if our wedding didn’t bless me in more ways than modern mathematics is capable of quantifying, this picture might be the single thing I treasure most from our four day wedding weekend. This bird appeared at the top of the cross on the chuppah Eddie built for me as we signaled our four children to join us. This was right as choir began singing a blessing over our family. He stayed during the entire song and through our vows. At one point, he landed on the platform beside Eddie, then came over and perched behind me for a moment. Eventually, he flew away. But he came back once more, flying around the rafters for the longest time, almost as if he were dancing. And with every photo, video, or account from a guest who witnessed our little bird, I am in absolute awe. I didn’t know how to include Zion in our wedding. We considered framing a photo from the NICU, leaving an empty chair for him... but nothing felt right. It turns out, I didn’t need to figure it out at all. He knew exactly what to do. 🤍 Thank you, Zion. Thank you for finding a way to give me family photo with all five of my children. 🩵 It’s the best wedding present imaginable. Mama loves you. So so much.
