BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPURS AND KNICKS FANS. 🧐 The atmosphere in New York is supposed to be intense. Loud crowds, passionate fans, and a hostile environment for opposing teams are all part of what makes playoff basketball special. But if the reports and videos circulating after Game 3 are accurate, some fans crossed a line. Rivalries are part of sports. Assaulting opposing fans, ripping jerseys off people, and destroying their property isn’t. There’s a huge difference between passionate support and behavior that has no place around the game. The Spurs earned a hard-fought win behind Victor Wembanyama, and fans should be able to celebrate or leave the arena safely regardless of which team they support. Sports are supposed to bring out passion, but that passion should never turn into violence or intimidation. The overwhelming majority of fans simply want to enjoy the game, and it’s unfortunate when the actions of a few people end up becoming part of the conversation instead of the basketball itself. What’s ironic is that moments like this only make the rivalry more personal for the players and fans on the other side. The Spurs came into New York and got the job done when their season was on the line, and now they’ll have a chance to do it again in Game 4. The focus should be on the incredible basketball being played in the Finals, not videos of fans fighting in the streets. Rivalries are great for the sport.
