Dakgalbi is extra good when you add perilla leaves. I can’t believe it’s so good. One of my regrets was not getting bulks of perilla leaves at the market to bring back home, it is insanely cheap. Seoul and South Korea would never be the same again.

Run It Back: Fake TV Songs From Moesha, The Parkers and Sister Sister Have the Internet Feeling Nostalgic

A simple question on Threads has the culture deep in its feelings: what is your favorite fake TV song? The replies quickly turned into a full-blown nostalgia session, with fans pulling clips from Moesha, The Parkers, Sister Sister, The Jamie Foxx Show and even Dreamgirls.

Fake TV songs are the tracks that only existed inside the show. A character enters a talent show, forms a group, records a demo or performs at a school event, and somehow the song sticks with you for 20 years. You couldn’t buy them on CD or request them on the radio. You just had to catch the episode again in reruns and hope your VCR was recording.

When TV Was Appointment Viewing

The ’90s and early 2000s were a golden era for Black sitcoms. UPN and The WB built entire nights around shows like Moesha, The Parkers, The Jamie Foxx Show and Sister Sister, and families planned their evenings around them. There was no streaming, no skipping ahead and no binge-watching. If you missed an episode, you heard about it at school the next day and waited for the rerun.

Those shows didn’t just make you laugh. They let their stars show off everything they could do, and many of those stars could really sing. Brandy sang the Moesha theme song. Countess Vaughn sang the theme for The Parkers. Tia and Tamera Mowry sang their own Sister Sister theme. Jamie Foxx created “Here Comes Jamie Foxx” for his own show, where he played Jamie King, an aspiring singer and actor working at his family’s Los Angeles hotel. Music wasn’t an extra on these shows. It was part of the DNA.

Why Fake TV Songs Hit Different

Fake TV songs worked because they came from characters we felt like we knew. When a character finally got their shot at a talent show or a recording session, it felt like a win for someone in your own family. The songs were often a little corny, sometimes surprisingly good, and always quotable. That mix is exactly why people still remember them word for word.
