“If you saw me in the morning, I’d be covered in wet clay dust, guiding my university students through a studio session as their professor. But by night, I completely transform myself, draped in layered dhotis, ornate embroidered Kediya jackets, heavy silver jewelry, and a regal pagdi, commanding the grounds as an iconic face of the Luxmi Vilas Palace Garba.
I’ve never believed in limiting myself to just one identity. I grew up in Vadodara, surrounded by artists, architects, and performers. In our home, art wasn’t a hobby you did after school, it was the very language we spoke. From the time I was a little kid, whenever music played, my feet just moved. When I saw clay, my hands immediately wanted to shape it.
I decided to pursue visual arts fully, graduating in sculpture from MSU Baroda in 1997. Hungry to explore design, I completed my Master’s in Creative Sculpture. Yet, while my hands were shaping clay, my heart was always beating to a rhythm.
I threw myself into Bharatanatyam training under legends like Padma Bhushan C.V. Chandrasekhar Sir and Smt. Jaya Chandrasekhar. later performing across India with Smt. Juthika Mahen’s troupe. Stepping onto the stage at the Modhera Sun Temple, or performing in Brooklyn those weren’t just recitals; they were moments of pure creative release.
That same passion comes alive every single Navratri. For me, Garba isn’t just a festival; it’s a living masterpiece. It’s the one arena where my love for folk dance, individual fashion styling, and bold personal presence all collide under the night sky.
Teaching is where all these worlds converge. Since 2008, I’ve been serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sculpture at Baroda. Every day, I tell my students that technical skill is only half the battle. The real work is having the courage to stand out, wear your individuality fearlessly, and let your authentic self lead your work.
When people see me in my full dramatic attire at the palace or working in the dusty university studio, they ask, ‘Are you a professor, a sculptor, a dancer, or a stylist?’ I tell them, ‘I’m all of it. Why settle for one title when you can live them all?’”

I’ve thought about the Ship of Theseus concept so much since WandaVision first aired all those years ago.

Leave it to a show exploring what it means to be HUMAN to take an intellectual thought experiment about identity and existence and give it so much genuine humanity.

That’s the kind of storytelling I LOVE from Marvel.

Absolutely adoring VisionQuest so far!
