Doing anything with Mukhari (properly) is always an undertaking. Approach trivially, and the raga will send you flying back until you are sprawled on all fours, like in the movies :D Being able to explore it freely, in a tricky form like tanam no less, has been a dream goal of mine, and I’m incredibly lucky to be able to share this work in progress

Tanam Love : Mukhari

PS: @praveensparsh : hey you think you can work in a speed shift into your tanam?
+
Me: umm, nice idea.. let me see…
= decides to self escalate the challenge and work in the speed shift while playing Mukhari tanam 🙄
POV: when you have partners who are happy to push you/ inspire you/ happily make mischief in your mind :D

PS: these videos aren’t bite-sized, they don’t share shiny, perfectly produced music, but they are an honest share - completely improvised in that moment, with raw sound, an iPhone and a helluvalotta happy that this is what I’m doing :)

Tanam Love: Tanam is a tricky little friend, you want the raga bhavam; but play long phrases with continuous bowing and it sounds like ragam, you want it to be rhythmic and punctuated - but bow for every note and you end up playing just swaram. You really have to hear the sound distinctly in your head, to bring out these rhythmic, punctuated yet raga filled phrases.
