Paris Hilton’s ADHD summit has been on my mind all week, and I want to talk about it as someone who works with brands and creators every day. First, this isn’t a dig at the creators who attended; for a lot of people, being invited felt validating, and it was recognition of the work they’ve put into the community. I’ve got several criticisms but from someone in marketing my main issue is just how much of the fundamentals were… just wrong. If the goal was really to drive change for people with ADHD, then travel and accommodation support should have been in the budget from day one - without it, the room was always going to reflect who could afford to be there, not who the community actually is and thus exclude people in the community with less privilege. ADHD doesn’t only affect people with money and many - even those with large online platforms - face barriers to diagnosis, treatment, steady work and financial stability. An event that doesn’t plan for that ends up speaking about the community rather than with it and creates a narrative that doesn’t reflect the vast majority of people’s experiences. Add in the “superpower” narrative on top, and it starts to look more like a personal brand activation than advocacy. I’m not expecting perfection; events like this rarely are in my experience. But some really basic things were missed, and in 2026 we know how to do this better: funded places, hybrid access, paid community voices, and real consultation with the people you say you’re serving and listening to their feedback. If the summit runs again, I hope Paris and her team listen to the feedback and get the fundamentals right.
