Comment “links” to get my picks 💎Follow me to cut through the hype! Similar cut, three prices. None of them have lining. Prada’s pants are navy and come with a fabric belt; the others are black and don’t. I’m tired of being told to “invest” in better basics when they’re 2-3x the price and use worse fabrics. The middle pair is the only one where most of the fabric is plastic. So where to look for dress pants? I defined dress pants as tailored with a zip closure. The fabric and cut are office-appropriate and lack embellishment or fabrics that read as event appropriate. Full method on the last slide. Even Italy manufactures disappointing fabrics. Focus on the actual composition: add up all the synthetics and aim for the total to be under 30%. If it’s easier, add up the natural fibers, and aim for that sum to be 70% or more. I’m not a purist. If you find something stunning at a great price and 65% natural fibers, I’d recommend that over meh pants with a perfect score But then you really have to watch out for abrasion; pilling like the photo here is more likely when the pants rub up against a bag, for example. Paying more doesn’t give you better fabric. The chart shows Bloomingdale’s brands with 8+ dress pants. The other 552 Bloomingdale’s dress pants: 47% are under 30% synthetic. That means I’d eliminate half of them from the running. BOSS combines the “Hugo Boss” and “BOSS” listings (9 + 8 pants). Ralph Lauren:
