Excited to present the official trailer for LEʻA a queer, Kanaka Maoli erotic short film written and directed by Kalani Axelrode (@kalaniaxe). The film is supported by Sound & Scene, the QTBIPOC Short Film Initiative from @newfest and @concord_originals. Trailer by @uhleta Inspired from a personal experience and a desire to challenge the ways Hawaiian women have historically been represented on screen, LEʻA offers an intimate and subversive exploration of sexuality, power, and the complexities of human connection. Blending eroticism, suspense, and moments of unexpected tenderness, the film reimagines familiar narratives of desire through a distinctly queer, Kanaka Maoli perspective. What unfolds is a story that questions who holds power, who is permitted pleasure, and who gets to shape the images and stories of our bodies. Set to “Breathe (2 AM)” by Anna Nalick, the most lesbian song of the fall. To our cast, crew, collaborators, and community; mahalo nui loa for the care, creativity, and collective spirit that brought this vision to life. We are grateful to Lei Pua Ala, NewFest and Concord Originals for supporting our stories. Full cast and crew credits in the comments x
