Thousands of people joined the INDIA bloc’s march towards the Supreme Court in New Delhi on October 12, following Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s call to protest alleged “vote chori” and file a petition against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The march, titled “Chalo Delhi – March for Democracy”, saw opposition leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, travel towards the Supreme Court from the Connaught Place–Barakhamba Road junction. Gandhi had urged opposition parties, party workers, young people and civil society groups to join the demonstration, describing it as a fight to protect the Constitution and the country’s electoral system. The INDIA bloc plans to challenge alleged electoral irregularities and raise concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Opposition parties have alleged that the voter-list revision process and other election-related decisions undermine democratic representation. The Election Commission has defended its decisions, maintaining that its orders follow established legal procedures. Before the march, Gandhi said the opposition would approach the Supreme Court and file a petition against the CEC over the allegations. He also urged Gyanesh Kumar to resign and become an approver, alleging that larger forces were behind the irregularities. These remain opposition allegations, not established judicial findings. The march came after Chief Justice of India Surya Kant declined the INDIA bloc leaders’ request for a meeting. Gandhi said the Chief Justice had directed them to pursue legal remedies by filing a petition. The opposition has framed the campaign as a broader fight to safeguard the Constitution, demand accountability in the electoral system and address concerns over voter-list revisions. The petition marks its attempt to take the dispute over alleged “vote chori” to the country’s highest court.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a series of women-focused initiatives aimed at improving campus safety, strengthening public infrastructure and creating new livelihood opportunities across the national capital. In a recent meeting with presidents and vice presidents of Delhi University’s women’s colleges, Gupta discussed concerns ranging from poorly lit roads and unsafe surroundings to inadequate public transport and infrastructure gaps. The Chief Minister directed officials to establish a dedicated WhatsApp group connecting student representatives with administrative and police authorities, allowing campus-related issues to be raised directly with the government. Student representatives from colleges including Lady Shri Ram, Gargi, Maitreyi and Jesus and Mary participated in the interaction. Gupta also encouraged young women to contribute their perspectives to Delhi’s upcoming Youth Policy and pre-budget consultations. Meanwhile, the Delhi government has launched an application portal for its DURGA e-auto scheme, which aims to create self-employment opportunities while improving last-mile connectivity. Under the initiative, 1,300 pink electric autos will be allocated in the first phase, including 1,170 for women and 130 for transgender persons. The scheme is intended to help beneficiaries become owners and drivers of electric autos while promoting cleaner and safer public transportation, particularly around major transit networks. The government has also outlined plans to install 50,000 CCTV cameras and one lakh streetlights across Delhi to strengthen public-space security. Gupta said improved lighting and surveillance would help address safety concerns, particularly around educational institutions. Existing support mechanisms, including One Stop Centres offering medical, legal and counselling assistance, the 181 Women Helpline and the 112 emergency response number, form part of the broader safety framework.

Mental health has always been very close to my heart, and this year feels particularly meaningful. Today marks 40 years since I lost my father after his struggles with depression. Over the years, I’ve come to understand how important it is to create spaces where we feel safe to speak openly, to listen without judgment, and to know that we are not alone. Mental health touches all of us, and we all have a role to play in supporting one another. That’s why, together with @breathe_hellas, I’m launching LET IT BE HEARD, a campaign built around real voices, real stories and the belief that listening can lead to meaningful change. I’ve invited some of my dear friends to share what mental health means to them, because every story matters and every voice deserves to be heard. As we mark 40 years since my father’s passing, I hope we can turn something deeply personal into something that helps others. Our goal is to raise 40K € for 40 years, supporting Breathe Hellas’ art therapy and wellbeing programmes in schools. Join us in turning listening into action. Share your voice, listen to someone who needs it, and donate if you can. Every contribution brings us one step closer. 🤍 Donate via the link in bio. #letitbeheard #breathehellas #mentalhealthmatters
