One night, two incredible causes, and a whole lot of love. When I was diagnosed with type 1.5 diabetes back in 2023, I felt like I was in this weird in-between. Not quite type 1, not quite type 2, and honestly, I wasn’t sure where I belonged. But from day one, the T1D community welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like I had a place at the table. Last night, I had the incredible honor of receiving the Spotlight Award at the @breakthrought1d LA Gala, presented by my brother @jcchasezofficial. To be recognized by a community that has given me so much already means more than I can put into words. Truly. And because apparently one emotional night wasn’t enough, I headed over to @theabbeyweho to celebrate @heymistr’s 2nd Annual National PrEP Day! Another cause close to my heart and another reminder of just how important it is to show up, break down stigmas, and make sure everyone has access to the care and support they deserve. Different causes, same mission: making sure nobody feels like they’re on the outside looking in. My heart is full.

People often ask us when we find time to practice, since we are touring so much of the year. We call this our Qawwali Moon, a kind of Qawwali honeymoon, when the Fanna-Fi-Allah ensemble comes together at the Sama School of Music in Bali between tours to learn new Qawwalis and practice as one. This is a short clip of that, the team sitting together with Yadan Vichde, in the traditional Qawwali style passed down by our ustads in the family of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Behind the performances are long hours and heavy training, the deep work that keeps this tradition alive. Our next concerts will be in India, in Delhi, on October 20 and 21. We will see you there, inshallah.
