The Italian’s parents have the kind of marriage I dream about. And as we celebrate our fifth anniversary todaywrap up our babymoon at @termedisaturnia, their marriage is on my mind.

They have been together for 55 years now.
And still when they toast, they link arms.

When he stands up,
He touches her face — soft, brief, just a wordless reminder of love.

Recently he pulled out their wedding album.
In pictures they smile at each other.

And now their house is filled with months,
With years,
Of photos showing the same.

The other day, the Italian stood up.

He touched my face — soft, brief, just a wordless reminder of love.

And I find myself thinking how much I hope,
That we will unfold like his parents did.

If you, like me,
Grew up without an example
Of how this marriage thing can work,
How it does, sometimes, so beautifully work,
Know this:

It’s possible to fall in love,
And hold that feeling forever.

I’ve seen the proof,
In a couple that’s clasped hands and held hearts for more than 50 years.

I may not know the exact recipe,
Or precisely how the path goes.

But I know it’s possible.

And that it’s the kind of love
