🏆 Best British Columbia Short Film Winner: Stand In 🏆
Congratulations to director Hiromu Yamawaki and the "Stand In" team for winning Best British Columbia Short Film at the Sundar Prize Film Festival 2025!
💰 Prizes: $500 CAD + a $10,000 Gift Certificate from @sparkys_rentals + a @movingimagesds Distribution Offer + a VFS CONNECT course from @vancouverfilmschool!
"Stand In" follows Kenji, a struggling Japanese actor who works as an Uber driver by night and often finds himself standing in — literally — for his more successful rival, Chris, an established Asian actor. When Kenji unknowingly picks up Chris as a passenger, their shared ride forces both men to confront unspoken truths and ambitions.
The film swept awards at the Mighty Asian Moviemaking Marathon 19, winning Best Short, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and both Jury and People’s Choice Awards — and now adds the Sundar Prize for Best BC Short Film to its list of accolades.
"Stand In" offers a powerful reflection on representation, rivalry, and the quiet resilience of carving out your own space in someone else’s spotlight.
