She officially began the role on October 12. Her first and only briefing in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room took place the following day and lasted roughly 14–15 minutes. She took a limited number of questions, primarily from conservative-leaning outlets, and the performance drew widespread criticism for its brevity, reliance on prepared remarks, and overall delivery.⁠ ⁠ Compounding the scrutiny was the revelation about her legal credentials. Zacharia, a 2011 graduate of Pepperdine University’s Caruso School of Law, had repeatedly described herself as a lawyer and was introduced by Trump as an “attorney.” She later confirmed she sat for the California bar exam in 2011 but did not pass and never became licensed to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction. ⁠ ⁠ The issue intensified after she gave an unclear response when asked where she had passed the bar, and a complaint was filed with the California State Bar Association regarding whether she had improperly held herself out as entitled to practice law.⁠ ⁠ On Friday, Trump told reporters outside the White House that he had spoken with Zacharia and suggested she “reconsider” the position.
