The first year of college is a year with a lot riding on it. It’s been scary and overwhelming and violently emotional— but it’s also been great.
I was deeply worried that Flagler wouldn’t be the place for me, or that I wouldn’t perform academically, or that i wouldn’t make friends, or that my passion projects wouldn’t get off the ground, but thankfully— none of these things were true.
I managed to get presidents list first semester, landed an internship at the capitol, met some great people that i really vibe with, published countless articles on local politics, got a photo published in the student literary journal, made some incredibly interesting connections, got elected to the student government executive board, and started a local student advocacy group which we used to hold an entire protest. All of this was possible almost solely because of the emotional support of my greatest friends, who’ve kept me going through love and inspiration.
In the coming years I look forward to the kind of work i can produce and the kind of change we can make as activists in St. Augustine. Despite my own personal struggles, and the dire state of the country, I genuinely believe the future, at least for myself and those important to me, is looking bright.
I finally feel like a beautifully free, independent happy Transgender adult, and it’s great. It’s sure as hell hard— but it’s great.
Let’s all work for a better world together.
Peace and Love,
Logan Michael
