One month since I quit Taekwon-Do. I thought Iโ€™d be itching to train by now. Honestly, Iโ€™m still tired. I stepped away because the environment had stopped feeling safe for me, mentally and physically. I was burnt out, and I needed space to work out what my relationship with Taekwon-Do and the Taekwon-Do community could look like again. Iโ€™ve slept a lot. The stress and ostracism is still there, and I havenโ€™t found the energy or desire to return to my own training yet. After nearly 30 years, that feels strange. But alongside that, Iโ€™ve enjoyed having spare time again. Reading, being creative, exploring ideas and spending time with people without always being the person organising everything. And Iโ€™ve realised how much my WMA community has my back. When youโ€™re used to being the coach and supporting everyone else, receiving that support yourself means a great deal. Iโ€™m still struggling with some of it. Iโ€™m also enjoying parts of life I hadnโ€™t made enough room for. Thereโ€™s no return date to announce. For now, Iโ€™m grateful for that roomโ€”and for the people helping me feel more like myself.
