The Tournée du Chat Noir (Tour of the Black Cat) was a traveling performance show featuring the entertainers of the famous Le Chat Noir cabaret, a legendary entertainment venue in Paris that shaped the cultural landscape of the late 19th century. Founded by impresario Rodolphe Salis, it is often credited as the world’s first modern cabaret.
Ever since I decided to use the now-iconic poster designed by Swiss artist Théophile Alexandre Steinlen as the inspiration for my Cats In Space DJ set cover art, this black cat has been unexpectedly popping up in mine and close friends’ lives. Not only in reprints of the poster showing up, but also tying back to one of the first two VHS movies I had as a child, “Gay Purr-ee.”
To say the least, it’s been strangely magical…
Thank you
@cats_in_space_firecircle and
@soakpdx for being a part of the throughline in this magic! Both eh yaz have been an immense help for me in rediscovering from where this magic is sourced.🫀❤️🔥
