Say a little hello to our friend, @p51_gunfighter, who has helped us out so many times when we can't be in two places at once!

One of the best parts of @caf1957 is the collaboration and community we establish to help one another out.

I had the privilege of taking a ride in gunfighter during EAA in July! It was an incredible experience and the entire crew from the Commemorative Air Force and my pilot Pete “Doctor” Scholl were amazing! I can’t wait to do it again!

🇦🇷 Part 1/2 - “I met Marcelo Patri in Buenos Aires back in 1994 and was struck at first by his external beauty. We exchanged phone numbers and started seeing each other frequently. That’s when I discovered that he was also beautiful on the inside.

Marcelo was 25 when we met, and worked at his parents’ butcher shop on the counter. After about a month, we started dating and I proposed HIV tests for both of us. Right after that I had to go away on business. When I returned, he knocked at my door with flowers and gave me the news that he had tested positive. My reaction on the outside was being supportive and telling him everything was going to be alright, inside I was taken over by fear.

I accompanied Marcelo to an infectious disease specialist who started following up on him. From then on, it became increasingly difficult for me to deal with the situation, hearing warnings from my parents, saying he was not good for me. For a while I decided to ignore them but eventually the whole thing got the best of me and I decided to put some distance which was one of the hardest things I’d ever done.

We still secretly met from time to time until we eventually stopped seeing each other. He was keeping his HIV status a secret from his Marcelo which must have been very difficult for him as well. I met his mother and unfortunately she was in denial of his being gay, so I can only imagine what he must have felt like.

🇦🇷 Part 2/2 - Time passed and in January 1996 I found out Marcelo had recently passed away from tuberculosis complications. He was 27 years old.

It took me years to find out where Marcelo was laid to rest but I eventually found out and visited his grave, it looked as if nobody had taken care of it in a long time, which made me very sad. I laid flowers and briefly said a few words, hoping maybe he could hear me somewhere. I suppose I was searching for some kind of closure.

I am now 53 and often think of what it would be like if Marcelo were still with us, and how different things would have been had I met him when HIV was no longer a death threat. But I am thankful to have crossed paths with him and will always cherish the times we shared. I will never
