“WHAT’S GOING ON?” Ideation and Process final, May 8th 2025, 10ftx25ft, mixed media and sound

i spent 6 short weeks trying to encapsulate every feeling, word, image, i see and hear everyday as an Egyptian-American just trying to live my insignificant life. it shouldn’t be normal to witness genocide on social media on a daily basis and to expect that i’d come out unscathed. seeing the suffering of my people eroded me, yet i held the expectation of normalcy for way too long, to the point that my nervous system got used to seeing obliterated corpses of brown children, mothers and fathers on my timeline.

this isn’t normal. i decided to use the opportunity to unleash the anguish, the anger, the sadness, the hopelessness, the forgotten opportunities, the frustration, to represent my people, artistically. i did not succeed. i discovered that what i created was a smithereen. i never felt smaller. what i would give to duplicate myself over and over and create hundreds, thousands of pieces. so this begins the journey.

i implore you all to create more than you consume. and do some-thing. action. action. action. more than ever, please.
