INTERNSHIP ESSENTIALS

💻 Not every internship (at least in research) guarantees that you’ll get a computer right away - so make sure to bring your own laptop if you have one for your first day (this happened to me in my first internship)

🖊️ Bring some stationary and a notepad if that’s your thing or a tablet to jot down notes/ideas etc during meetings, lab work or other parts of your internship

🔌 Chargers ! Make sure all your devices are charged

🫙 Water bottle and snacks 🥜 to help you keep going during the day (during my first internship I didn’t realise how hungry I’d get being on my feet all day in the lab and quickly decided to bring lab snacks with me)

👩🏻‍💼 this might be a strange one but a blazer (or smart shirt, smart casual clothing) ! You never know when you might have to give a talk, or go to an event where you need to dress professionally so keep a blazer handy and some formal shoes at your desk just in case !

🎧 Offices where interns tend to be are usually busy and noisy so remember to bring some noise cancelling headphones if you have some to help you whilst you’re working

💻 Get familiar with some organisational apps like Notion to help keep your tasks and to do lists up to date and keep yourself organised in the way that suits you best

👞 If you’re working in a lab remember to bring hair ties, lab appropriate shoes, and clothing
