In May 2025, 22-year-old former missionary Krew Zaugg met a 15-year-old girl. The victim’s family explained that she had recently lost her grandfather and was vulnerable, looking for a friend. Even though she explicitly told Zaugg her age before they met in person, he picked her up and sexually assaulted her inside his locked Tesla.

In court, Zaugg tearfully told the judge that on the night of the crime, he had just broken up with his girlfriend and was desperately seeking comfort. He stated: "I was feeling sad, lonely and miserable. Instead of dealing with those things in a mature and responsible way, I made an impulsive decision." While released on bail awaiting trial, Zaugg reconciled with that same girlfriend and married her.

Zaugg was originally charged with rape of a victim under 16 and lewd conduct with a child. Under a plea agreement, prosecutors amended the charge to felony battery with intent to commit a serious felony, dismissing the lewd conduct charge. District Judge Michael Whyte placed Zaugg on a one-year "rider" program (retained jurisdiction) in a correctional facility. While he carries an underlying sentence of 4 to 18 years, successfully completing the treatment program within that year gives the judge the option to place him on probation instead of sending him to state prison for the full term. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender and maintain no contact with the victim for 14 years.

Just the Way I Am

I can’t sleep tonight,
My mind is spinning round and round,
Feels like it’s gonna burst,
There’s no peace to be found.

It always happens this way,
The harder I try, the more I give,
A little piece of my heart fades away,
But I’ve still got a life to live.

And I’ve got to carry on,
Though I’m tired down to my soul,
No time to stop, no time to sigh,
Just another day goes rolling by.

But I’m still me,
Yes, I’m still me,
Learning to love the man I see.
With all my doubts, with all my scars,
I’ll keep on going, just as I am.

Oh, just the way I am,
Just the way I am.

Happy Birthday Loulou ❤️
May all your dreams come true 👍🏻🙏🏼
