Today, in person (2:30p), phone (3:10p) + email (3:37p), Devore Shelter told us that Smoothie, Bella, and Sugar (along with two other dogs) had already been euthanized. They were removed from the website. Staff told rescuers it was too late.
But that wasn’t the truth.

🐾 Once inside the shelter rescuers found:
✔️ Smoothie, still alive in her kennel @ 3:45p— despite an email earlier saying she’d been euthanized.
✔️ Bella, being wheeled to euth at 3:40p (video proof) soon to be sedated.
✔️ Sugar, also alive, looking out as @narana0408 gave her some final treats.

⏳ What happened next was pure chaos — and pure heartbreak.
❤️🩹 Bella was saved with seconds to spare. She was so drugged it took an hour before she could even leave the shelter.
❤️🩹 Smoothie was rescued after already being wheeled to the euth room thanks to @ironpawrescue
💔 Sugar never got that chance. She was euthanized not long after. No one knew she still needed saving — because we were told she was already gone.

🚨 This is not a mistake. This is system failure.
🚨 Dogs were declared dead before they were euthanized.
🚨Their profiles were pulled early, blocking rescue efforts.
🚨 And no one would have known — if our friends weren’t physically there to see the truth.

If no one had shown up in person, Bella and Smoothie would be dead, and no one would question it. If we had known Sugar was still alive, maybe she’d be here too.

Email the shelter. Email the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. Demand:
✔️ Transparency around euthanasia timing
✔️ Immediate halt on pulling dog profiles before confirmed euthanasia
✔️ Accountability for the misinformation that cost lives
✔️ 72hr notice of EUTH!!

Appears to be quite some time ago, but I wouldn’t doubt if it still continues to happen. This place is a hell hole. It should be shut down !!! and I know this with my own experience

@cagovernor how are you going to stop this madness governor Gavin Newsom? Do you want people to vote for you for president? Then you need to stop California shelters from euthanizing healthy dogs. if you did that I might vote for you.

Why would they lie about the dogs being euthanised when they know there are people doing their best to save them and get them new homes or fosters.
