After I stopped recording these Desi aunties came over to tell me my berimbau reminds them of an instrument called the ektara. Then a group of kids gathered and stared, but once I gave them a smile, they started to form a joyful little audience, dancing and laughing to the unfamiliar sounds i was playing.

This is probably an annoying thing for a new arrival to nyc to say but idgaf, it feels so damn good to live in a multicultural place like this (Miami is diverse, but only within the parameters of Caribbean/Latinx.) I learn, see, taste, or hear something completely new every time I step outside. Te amo, Jackson Heights ❤️
