A few years later, Max Hetzel left Bulova and, in 1969, joined Omega. By then, his tuning fork technology had been licensed to Swiss movement maker ESA, who developed the 9162, 9164, and the chronograph-equipped 9210 movements.

Omega saw a chance to enter the high-tech watch market and adopted ESA’s tuning fork calibers for a new line: the Omega Electronic F300. The name referenced the tuning fork’s 300Hz frequency. Omega refined the movements, adding signature copper plates, and rebranded them as Calibres 1250, 1260, and 1255 (used in the Speedsonic). All were certified chronometers.

Launched in 1970, the F300 line quickly became a success. Omega incorporated the movements into familiar collections like the De Ville, Seamaster, Constellation, and Speedsonic—classic styling on the outside, modern engineering inside.

While many models kept Omega’s traditional look, some embraced bold ’70s design, giving collectors today a wide and quirky range of vintage timepieces—a true wrist-worn time capsule.
