Your brain can keep you trapped in a trauma bond by separating the good memories from the painful ones. This psychological mechanism is called splitting. You hold onto the loving moments, the kindness, and the person you believed the narcissist was. Meanwhile, the cruelty, manipulation, and painful experiences get pushed into a separate compartment.
