Greetings from the train, where I’m on my way home to Norfolk after a trip to beautiful Henley-on-Thames, to talk about “Fashioning the Crown” @henleylitfest. Thanks so much to the lovely audience and everyone who makes this such a glorious literary festival (including @jessicajonzen, who was on stage with me as a very thoughtful interviewer). It’s my third visit as an author, and always a pleasure to come - the organisers are as welcoming as they are efficient, and who could resist a festival sponsored by @gowercottage, the makers of the most delicious chocolate brownies in the country? I have a box in my bag, which I’ve managed to resist so far on my journey (we have friends coming to stay with us this weekend, so I’m attempting to save these delicacies to share with them). However, I have succumbed to the temptation of a gin & tonic in a can from M&S for the final stretch of my lengthy journey… yes, it tastes a bit metallic, but it’s oddly refreshing, nevertheless… Meanwhile, I’m looking forward to a reunion with Philip and Juno, who will hopefully be waiting for me at the station, and then a late supper of scrambled eggs on toast. Here’s to book lovers everywhere, and I’m sending warm wishes to you and yours…
