Kona 🌺
It feels very surreal being here. This will be my first time racing in Kona, but I was here 25 years ago in 2001 watching my dad race.

I don’t remember much about being here (I was 11!), but I have one very clear memory: standing up close, watching the pro women coming out of the swim and thinking, I want to do that one day.
It’s been a crazy journey since then!

We lived in Scotland at the time, and from that moment I knew I wanted to be a triathlete when I grew up. We moved to Australia when I was 15, and I did my first half Ironman that year. Not long after, I qualified for my pro licence.

I had planned to do an Ironman as soon as I turned 18, but @austriathlon reached out and asked if I wanted to be part of a talent transfer program and race short course.
I was hesitant because I knew Kona was the dream but they persuaded me by saying they’d help me with my swimming (the weakest of the three at the time) and that I just had to give it a go for 12 months.

Anywayyyy… that 12 months turned into a whole 15-year career.
It brought some amazing, life-changing moments, but it also made me lose the love of the sport more than once 🥴 and a pretty awful back and nerve injury that meant riding for more than 30 minutes at a time was incredibly painful.

After all that, I didn’t think being here would ever be an option for me but WOW I’m so glad I gave it a crack and have the opportunity to line up against the 50 best Ironman distance females triathletes in the world.

I’m so excited to experience everything Kona is about - the wind, the heat, the hills… all of it.

I can’t wait. 🌺

Anyway here’s my new race suit and swipe —-> to see me here 25 years ago!

Your child does not have an ADHD problem. I need to say that loudly because nobody in that twenty minute assessment was going to. 💛

Your child has a nervous system that has been dysregulated since birth — and a spine that has never been checked by anyone. The diagnosis took twenty minutes. The nervous system investigation took zero minutes — because it was never on the schedule.

The ADHD checklist measured behaviour. It did not measure the nervous system producing the behaviour. It asked: does your child have difficulty sustaining attention? Does your child fidget? Does your child interrupt? These are observations of output. They are the smoke. The assessment did not look for the fire.

The autonomic nervous system regulates everything on that checklist — attention, impulse control, emotional regulation, sensory processing, sleep. The ADHD child whose nervous system is stuck in chronic sympathetic activation — chronic low-level threat response — cannot focus, cannot regulate, cannot settle. Not because they are choosing not to. Because their operating system is running in emergency mode.

The vagus nerve — the primary regulator of the parasympathetic nervous system — travels through the spine. The upper cervical spine. The one that takes the most stress during birth. Forceps. Vacuum. Prolonged labour. The mechanical rotation of the head. These create tension in the area directly adjacent to the brainstem and the vagus nerve. That tension has been there since birth. Nobody checked.

This is not anti-medication. This is not anti-diagnosis. This is pro-complete-picture. The complete picture includes the nervous system. The twenty minute assessment did not.

The diagnosis named the smoke. Nobody looked for the fire. The spine was never checked. Ask the question they didn't ask. 💛

If you want to understand your ADHD child from the inside out — comment "ADHD" below. I'll send you the book I wrote for parents of children with ADHD. 💛

Shooting Year Of The Horse in Singapore. During the production I got the phone call that I had been cast as Pamela Barnes Ewing for the 5 episode miniseries of Dallas. I was so excited that I told the entire cast & crew!

Goa diaries 🐾👟🫐🌊☀️

I had a plan for this year. This wasn’t it.

I went into it with goals, ideas, and things I was ready to make happen. Then my health needed my attention, and those plans had to wait.

I’m still going through treatment. Still rebuilding. Still figuring out what moving forward looks like for me.

And honestly? Taking care of myself has been hard. When you’re used to doing for everyone else, putting yourself first can feel uncomfortable. Even when you know you need it.

I had to learn that my goals couldn’t keep coming at the expense of my health. I needed to give myself some of the care I’m always so willing to give other people.

Now, I’m starting to find clarity. I’m asking questions I hadn’t given myself enough space to answer. And, I am realizing that things I was doing before are not things I will be doing moving forward.

I still don’t have a plan. No clear goals or direction. I am just simply showing up.

If this year hasn’t looked anything like you hoped, I get it. You’re allowed to be disappointed. You don’t have to fake positivity when sometimes life does suck.

Just remember you deserve to take care of yourself before you have anything else to give everyone else. 🤍
