Artist @simonorourke turned a storm-damaged tree into a giant hand reaching for the sky.

Once the tallest tree in Wales, it was due to be cut down after a storm left it damaged.

Simon turned it into a memorial for the much-loved landmark, known as "Giant Hand of Vyrnwy."

After two days of putting up scaffolding and six days of carving with chainsaws and grinders, the Giant Hand of Vyrnwy was born. The tree wasn’t wide enough for the whole hand, so the thumb and little finger were carved separately and added on.

Simon described the project as “a humbling experience,” one that reminded him “just how small we are compared to some of the living organisms on this planet”
