a year agoSindh and the Sindhi people made immense sacrifices and suffered greatly in the struggle for independence. Tragically, in return, they were reduced to a minority in their own historic homeland. Their cities and towns were taken over, lands occupied, and Sindhi Hindus—an integral part of Sindh’s fabric—were lost forever. The Sindhi language was suppressed, and Sindhis were likened to Palestinians or Native Americans—peoples who had lost their ancestral lands. After Partition, Sindh lost not only its territory but also its language, wealth, institutions, entrepreneurial class, and economic foundation. In exchange, it received millions of immigrants who only and only hate their hosts and came to conquer them. The migrants arrived to disrupt the social fabric, language, and culture of a civilisation that had thrived for thousands of years. Sindh and its people will need generations—perhaps centuries—to recover from this profound and tragic upheaval.
