Finally recovered properly from @paxaus enough to make this post but I'm so grateful to have won the Crown Championships for Australia and oh my gosh what an amazing experience the comp was. So grateful to the judges @cinderys_art @soylentcosplay and @spicythaidesign and to the amazing host @thegemcosplay for letting me do a silly jig. And of course my fellow, incredible contestants, the vibes were immaculate backstage and onstage and you are all so incredibly talented. Thank you to @nothatinstaxguy for these fantastic pics (pics 4 and 5). A few closer snapshots of my pieces for anyone who wants a closer look, and a little pic of my lucky charms where a few amazing folks I've met at conventions have gifted me with handmade flowers (not worn during prejudging ofc!). Shout out to my amazing fiance who was so patient as a handler for the day even with an injury. And of course @agarthanguide for the concept art for @critical_role of Fearne (played by @ashleythejohnson ) that this whole build is based on.
After years of pouring my heart and soul into creating one of the happiest places for dogs, today we had to say goodbye to it. Over the years, I welcomed so many visitors, including news channels, who saw with their own eyes some of the healthiest, happiest, and most well-behaved dogs. And do you know why? Because to me, sheltering was never about collecting animals or simply giving them a roof over their heads. It was about creating a proper system that cared for both their physical and emotional well-being. I wanted them to feel happy, loved, secure, and understood. Many families local and overseas found their best friends through us, and that alone made every struggle worth it. I still remember going from one scrapyard to another, trying to buy every little piece we needed to build this place, negotiating with my broken Arabic. I built so much of it from scratch, figuring things out as I went. People told me, “Elika, it’s too hard. You can’t do it.” But I did. And what we created became one of the best places I could have ever imagined for my dogs. I spent years studying animal behaviour, learning from experience, and collaborating with international rescue groups because I wanted us to improve every single day. I never believed that rescuing an animal was enough. I believed we had a responsibility to give them a life worth living. And that is exactly what I tried to do. Today, saying goodbye to this place hurts more than I can explain. Because to others, it may have looked like just a place for dogs. But to me, it was years of hard work, sacrifices, lessons, memories, and thousands of little moments of happiness. We may have lost the place we built, but what we achieved there or the lives we changed along the way is forever. I have never felt this but I truly feel lost…
In a development that has reignited questions over political consistency, Bengaluru Police have denied permission to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) to hold its proposed Tiranga March at Town Hall on Friday, October 16. The decision comes days after Congress leaders defended the right to peaceful protest amid police restrictions on CJP demonstrations in Delhi. According to India Today, Bengaluru Police rejected the organisers’ request to demonstrate outside Town Hall, directing them instead to Freedom Park, the city’s designated protest venue. Authorities cited Karnataka High Court directions and warned that demonstrations in the central business district could create severe traffic congestion and public safety concerns. The controversy comes against the backdrop of CJP’s nationwide protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. On October 10, protesters were detained in Delhi after police refused permission for a demonstration at Jantar Mantar. The decision has also brought attention to the Congress government’s handling of similar demonstrations in Karnataka. On October 10, Bengaluru Police detained protesters attempting to march towards the state Chief Electoral Officer’s office. Allegations of excessive force prompted Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to seek a report, while Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge promised a review. Rahul Gandhi, meanwhile, has publicly backed the broader protest movement. On October 12, he described the demonstrations against Gyanesh Kumar as part of a common struggle, regardless of whether they were organised by students, civil society groups or political parties. However, Bengaluru’s restrictions are not new. The city’s protest regulations designate Freedom Park as the principal demonstration venue, following earlier Karnataka High Court proceedings. The rules also give the police commissioner discretion to designate alternative locations under certain circumstances.
