You matter even when others deny your experience. That must be how David felt facing Goliath. These are the thoughts running through my mind as I get my first mammogram after finding a soft lump in my breast over the weekend. Honestly, I’m just grateful I have health insurance.

Life would be easier if I were the type to keep my head on a swivel—especially as a Chanel No. 5 kind of girl—but I’m not. The ones who do tend to get paid better, though.

I’m proud of myself for finding a post-COVID study showing that journalists who kept covering the pandemic had higher rates of PTSD symptoms than colleagues on other beats. The rate of a probable diagnosis among those covering COVID-19 (30%) matches what Feinstein et al. found among war correspondents (28.6%).

At this point, there isn’t a storm I haven’t faced when it comes to accountability and the truth. Money, power, and status come and go. But the truth, your voice, and your values—you take those to your grave. When I die, I’ll know I stood for something. I lost, suffered, and endured, all in the quest for answers. These are the things I think about when I scroll my own feed. I laugh at my own stubbornness for not submitting for an Emmy this year—knowing my creativity and dedication to innovation deserve acknowledgment—while my shadow side somehow takes pleasure in challenging the status quo. Then again, what would I know? I’m just a traffic reporter, I tell myself as I laugh. Keep scrolling to see my FAVORITE new locker.

I never thought I’d become the bourbon-drinking type of journalist, although I won’t be doing that anytime soon, I find myself looking at the Dolly Parton locker right in front of me at the doctor’s office. This woman always finds me when I need her most.

Halfway through my appointment, I was declined because I already have a lump, but I met the most amazing receptionist named Becky at Solis Mammography in River Oaks. She really knows her stuff and should be on TV. Word from two people—not one—is that Dr. Wheeler is a doctor and a lawyer who thinks differently and challenges the status quo in healthcare. As you can imagine, that sounds like my kind of person: one of the rare few - a patient in

28 years of Without You I’m Nothing 🖤
Go on, try picking just ONE song from this album. I dare you!
And If you could only quote one line, which would it be?

Placebo’s second studio album, ‘Without You I’m Nothing’, a timeless alternative rock classic, was released on 12 October 1998 and reached No. 7 on the UK Albums Chart.

If Placebo's self-titled debut was the night before, Without You I'm Nothing is the morning after. Whereas their first singles swaggered with libidinous confidence, the songs on Without You reek of self-loathing, guilt, and shame.

“By the time that we came off tour, I was in such a fragile emotional state that I ended up on anti-depressants. I was just fucked up. I'd taken my soul through the blender, and I really just didn't know who I was anymore. I was disgusted with myself.”

But adversity has always been an engine of creativity. After coming off the road, the band locked themselves into a subterranean room with no windows for two months and wrote the new record.

“We had to do a lot of soul-searching. We had to really look inside of ourselves and... realise what we had done. I think there's a lot of guilt on that record, and it talks about a few relationships that I had which I think that I basically did my best to ruin but I didn't know any better at the time. It's a very heartbroken album.”

Looking back at Without You I'm Nothing 28 years later, the album was a major building block in shaping Placebo into the band we know today.

The iconic yellow cover of WYIN was designed by English photographer Corinne Day. It features sisters Sarah and Sally sitting at a table, gazing down. The soft light filtering through the curtains creates a warm yellow hue that defines the album's aesthetic.
