Even with his already impressive resume, Donald Trump cannot help but lie about his late uncle, John G. Trump.
At a press conference just now in Pennsylvania the President claims his uncle was ‘the longest professor to ever teach at MIT.’ This is false. Trump was one of the longest serving faculty members at MIT, a highly respected one, but he was not the longest serving professor.
Trump taught engineering at MIT for 49 years (not 51) from 1933 to 1985. The longest serving professor at MIT is Gilbert Strang, who is still alive today and taught at MIT for 61 years.
The President said his uncle earned three degrees in ‘science, nuclear and math.’ This is also false. John Trump did earn three degrees but not in these subjects. Trump earned a bachelors degree in electrical engineering, a masters degree in physics and a doctorate degree in electrical engineering. He did not study nuclear engineering.
Despite his false claims, Donald Trump’s uncle was a respected scientist and scholar who would probably have a lot to say about his nephews dismantling of the Department of Education and cuts to scientific research.
