Share this with someone who needs a gentler reminder today. And take a moment to read it yourself, too. It’s easy to look at someone and feel certain we understand them. What they should eat. How hard they should exercise. How quickly they should recover. Sometimes, we turn that same judgment on ourselves. “They’re doing so much better. Why am I still here?” But we rarely know what someone started with, what support they have, or what it took for them to show up today. Even a compliment can carry an assumption. “You’ve lost weight. You look so much healthier.” We may mean it kindly. But we don’t know whether that change came with better habits, illness, grief or a difficult relationship with food. Before commenting, it helps to pause: “Do I know how this person is actually feeling?” You can ask how they’ve been. Listen without immediately offering a solution. Let them decide how much they want to share. And if someone tells you about progress that seems small, resist the urge to raise the bar. You don’t have to follow “I walked for ten minutes today” with “Try twenty tomorrow.” Sometimes, “I know this matters to you. I’m glad you could do it” is enough. Give yourself that same room. Your progress doesn’t become less meaningful because someone else can do more. You’re allowed to begin where you are, accept help and take the time you need. You won’t catch every judgment before it appears. But you can notice it and reconsider. “I don’t know their situation.” “I don’t need to comment on their body.” “I can be proud of myself without comparing.” Nobody should have to explain their pain to deserve a little understanding. Today, try replacing one assumption with curiosity and one harsh thought about yourself with patience. 🤍 #ChooseKindness #BeyondAppearances #HealthJourney #SelfCompassion #LukeCoutinho
15+ years of photography. And I finally had my first exhibition. 📸 Looking back at these photos, I realize how far I’ve come. Not just as a photographer, but as a person. I’m completely self-taught. No photography school, no fancy shortcuts. Just curiosity, countless hours behind the camera, a lot of trial and error, and a genuine love for capturing the world the way I see it. The past few days, especially with my first exhibition, reminded me of where I started and how much has happened since then. The funny thing is, I’m usually the last person to give myself credit for anything. I tend to focus on what I could do better instead of appreciating what I’ve already achieved. But maybe it’s time to change that a little. To be proud of the journey, to celebrate the small and big milestones, and to acknowledge the work that goes into doing something you truly love. So today, I’m sharing 19 photos that mean a lot to me. Not because they’re perfect, but because each of them represents a little piece of my journey. If you enjoy my work, a like, a comment, or a share genuinely means more than you might think. ❤️ And if you want to see a little glimpse of my first exhibition, check out my Stories! To everyone who has been here for a while, thank you for being part of this journey. And if you’re new here, welcome! I see you! 👀💚 Now tell me: Which photo is your favorite? 👇 #TravelPhotography #LandscapePhotography #PhotographyJourney #SelfTaughtPhotographer #SupportPhotographers
Big sister (Mwana) leading little sister (Mwezi)! We wondered how Mwana would react to the arrival of her new sibling. Despite the fact that she is now three and a half years old, she seemed to think she was still a small baby who deserved to be treated as such. We worried that she was in for a rude awakening. But Mwana has really risen to the occasion. While she’s still smarting from the nursing aspect — Murera had been trying to wean Mwana for months, but now the matter is forced — she has overall embraced her little sister. Here, she confidently leads Mwezi to mud bath and then watches over her while she enjoys a mini wallow! — In case you missed the news: Last Thursday, Murera gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. It was a seamless delivery, and mum, baby, and big sister are all doing great. Full story to come — in the meantime, reacquaint yourself with the miraculous story of her mother, Murera: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/murera —— © Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
