New White House press secretary Katie Zacharia, in her first briefing, said the White House has asked Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. ambassador to Greece, to resign. Zacharia called Guilfoyle an asset and wished her well.

This follows a series of Wall Street Journal reports alleging that Guilfoyle asked a Trump donor to pay her $100,000 American Express bill before her Senate confirmation, offering access to administration officials in return. The donor says he never paid. The Journal also reported luxury trips funded by Greek tycoons and a clash with a Greek minister.

Guilfoyle’s lawyers deny wrongdoing.

Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host and California prosecutor, was a top MAGA campaign surrogate and Donald Trump Jr.’s ex-fiancée. She was also once married to California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Someone leaked all those stories on her and got her pushed out. Who do you think was behind this?

Another trip around the sun.

Grateful for the growth, the lessons, the blessings, and all that’s still unfolding.

Walking into this new chapter with faith, peace, and a full heart.

God has been good to me.

💥🎆 Tchaikovsky – 1812 Overture, Op. 49
Boston Pops Orchestra – Keith Lockhart, conductor 🎼
Army cannons – fired during the concert 🪖

In a letter to his patron Nadezhda von Meck, Tchaikovsky warned that this overture would be very noisy, written without any affection, and that for that reason it would probably lack artistic merit. The commission had come from Nikolai Rubinstein, who headed the music section of the Moscow Exhibition and wanted a new work for the event. Before starting, Tchaikovsky had told his publisher Pyotr Jurgenson that he would not lift a finger as long as nobody commissioned anything from him. To the same patron he wrote that nothing was more disagreeable to him than composing for festivities, and he told the publisher that he had started work with an inexplicable aversion. The overture premiered officially in Moscow, and Tchaikovsky himself went on to conduct it 13 times.

Listen again and notice the instant when the camera, after the soldiers, leaves the conductor and shows the stage from far away: right after, a strong, deep thud sounds, wider than the shots in the soldiers' scene, and the image shows no flash at all.

This excerpt is from the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular of July 4, 2019, at the Hatch Shell, on the banks of the Charles River in Boston, with the orchestra conducted by Keith Lockhart. The concert was broadcast live on television, and the cut ends with fireworks bursting in the dark sky. The camera alternates between the illuminated bandshell and soldiers in camouflage uniforms beside a cannon at night, and one of them raises an open hand before several shots. Years later, Lockhart said that most Americans have come to think of the 1812 Overture as theirs.
